VETERAN’S AFFAIRS COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING MAY 7, 2012
1. Call to Order: Bernie called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm.
2. Roll Call:
Present: Kirk Allison, Bernie Corona, Mary-Ann Roczynski, J. Roger Pelletier
Absent: Dominic Fulco, Jr., Vincent Parys, Linda Carrasquillo, David Whalen, Paul Barry
3. Approval of Minutes:
April 9, 2012 – No quorum being present, the approval of minutes was tabled to the next meeting.
4. Old Business:
- Bicentennial Square – Bernie brought up renaming Bicentennial Square again. Said that Peg Byrnes from Patriotic Commission was to speak to the Mayor but that he had not heard what the outcome of the
meeting was. Mentioned that the new name could be Heroes Bicentennial Square to include a separate area for Police and Fire personnel. He will get back to the commission after he speaks again with Peg
Byrnes.
- Kirk stated that Cracker Barrel supports the Wounded Warrior Program by selling T-shirts if anyone is interested.
5. New Business:
- Bernie passed out miscellaneous information on veteran’s issues/benefits including: VA claim backlogs, veteran’s ambulance coverage, mental health care and VA special monthly compensation.
- Memorial Day Parade – on May 28th, kickoff is at 10am. They will be putting flags on veteran’s graves the week prior on May 19th if anyone wants to volunteer to help.
6. Adjournment – The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
The next meeting will be June 4, 2012 in the Town Council Chamber.
