2-7-11 Veterans Affairs Commission Minutes
VETERAN’S AFFAIRS COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 7, 2011

1.      Call to Order: Bernie called the meeting to order at 7:06 pm.

2.      Roll Call:
Present: Linda Carrasquillo, Kirk Allison, Bernie Corona, J. Roger Pelletier, Paul Barry
Absent: Stan deMello, Dominic Fulco, Sr.

3.      Approval of Minutes:

Minutes - November 1, 2010 – Linda made a motion, seconded by Paul to approve the minutes of November 1, 2010.  Motion carried.

Minutes - January 3, 2011 – J. Roger made a motion, seconded by Linda to approve the minutes of January 3, 2011.  Motion carried.

4.      Old Business:
  • Conditions of Veteran’s Headstones – The condition of headstones at cemeteries in Town is terrible.  Paul informed the Commission that there is a cleaner that can be purchased to clean them – it is expensive (about $700) a drum.  The Commission does not have the funds to purchase, but could pair with Patriotic Commission because they have funds.  It could be a group project with Patriotic Commission, and maybe also involve other veteran’s organizations like VFW and Rotary to purchase the cleaner and equipment.  Could also get volunteers to help complete the project.  Paul will come back to the Commission and give the hard numbers at the next meeting.
5.      New Business:
  • Bernie handed out a form on Agent Orange – how it applies to veterans from Korea.
  • Paul announced that Stand down is on September 9, 2011.
  • Kirk told the Commission that Congressman John Larson is meeting with Veterans on February 22, 2011 at the Triple A Diner at 8:30 a.m. for a forum to answers questions. He will buy breakfast for veterans who attend.
  • Kirk passed along that he saw an article in the Gazette that Anderson Jewelers is selling bracelets out of parachute cords – to support the troops
6.      Adjournment – J. Roger made a motion, seconded by Paul to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Tatia Lewis, Clerk
