VETERAN’S AFFAIRS COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING MAY 3, 2010
                                        
                                                
  • Call to Order – Chair Bernie Corona called the regular meeting of the Veteran’s Affairs Commission to order at 7:09 pm on May 3, 2010 in Town Council Chambers.

B.      Roll Call - PRESENT: Bernie Corona, Kirk Allison, J. Roger Pelletier, Mary-Ann Roczynski, Stan deMello, Linda Carrasquillo.   
                ABSENT: Dominic Fulco, Sr., Paul Barry  

  • Approval of Minutes – A motion was made by Linda to approve the minutes of the March 1, 2010 meeting, seconded by J. Roger.  Motion carried.  
  • Old Business  
  • Bi-Centennial Square Update – Stan deMello working on getting an appointment with Vinny’s landscaper to do something for entrance.  No update from Paul Barry due to absence.    Matter tabled for follow up.
  • Memorial Day Parade on May 31st.  Kick off at 10am.  Arden Passaro and Al Doak will be honored at Parade Ceremony.  Still not sure if WWII Vets will be honored at the parade; the Patriotic Commission will discuss it at their next meeting prior to the parade.  All are invited to attend the parade.
  • Kirk Allison recapped the benefit that was held at the Windsor Elks Club.  The turnout was good and a lot of money was raised for Oasis veteran’s recreation room at Manchester Community College.  
  • New Business  
  • Flag Day is June 14th.    The Patriotic Commission is having a ceremony at CIBA prior to the Board of Ed meeting at 6pm on June 7th to give awards students who participated in the essay contest on what the American Flag means to them.  Awards are given to the best in each grade.  The Veterans Commission is invited to attend the ceremony.
  • Open Discussion –
- Mary Ann informed the group that the Aqua Turf in Southington is holding a luncheon in honor of Armed
        Forces Day on May 13.  The cost is about $35 per person.

- Blue star banners still available.  Bernie recently gave a flag to a family with two sons in active duty.
        
  • Payment of Bills – Kirk made a motion to pay the clerk, seconded by Stan.  Motion carried.
  • Adjournment – Stan made a motion to adjourn the meeting and it was seconded by Kirk.  The meeting adjourned at 7:29 p.m.  The next scheduled meeting will be on Sept. 13, after the summer break.
