VETERAN’S AFFAIRS COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING MARCH 1, 2010
- Call to Order – Chair Bernie Corona called the regular meeting of the Veteran’s Affairs Commission to order at 7:08 pm on March 1, 2010 in Town Council Chambers.

B. Roll Call - PRESENT: Bernie Corona, Kirk Allison, J. Roger Pelletier, Paul Barry, Mary-Ann Roczynski, Stan deMello, Linda Carrasquillo.
EXCUSED: Dominic Fulco, Sr.
- Approval of Minutes – There were no minutes for January because there was no quorum.
- Old Business
- Bi-Centennial Square Update – Paul Barry and Stan deMello are both still working on this matter. Not much can be done until spring. Matter tabled for follow up at meeting in May.
- Parade this weekend will be a tribute to the Vietnam Veterans. Paul requested the Commission’s help to get members of the American Legion, DAV and VFW to march with flags. Kirk volunteered to help carry a flag.
- WWII Veterans Recognition Ceremony – Mary Ann spoke with Mayor Currey. She received a request from Susan Bysiewicz’s office. The Secretary of the State’s office does WWII recognition ceremonies for all municipalities in Connecticut and would like East Hartford to do one also. The Mayor will provide more specifics after the town budget passes, but she would like to do something in May. Commission discussed the matter, could possible do something in conjunction with the Memorial Day Parade. Will work with the Patriotic Commission also. Mary Ann or Bernie will follow up with the Mayor soon and report back to the Commission at next meeting.
- Open Discussion –
- Kirk Allison spoke of a veterans benefit to be held at the Windsor Elks Club. The money is being raised for a veteran’s recreation room at Manchester Community College. He asked the Commission if they would like to purchase tickets, or know of anyone who does to please contact him.
- Blue star banners still available. Kirk recently gave two flags to families with active service members.
- Payment of Bills – Kirk made a motion to pay the clerk, seconded by Stan. Motion carried.
- Adjournment – Paul made a motion to adjourn the meeting and it was seconded by Linda Carrasquillo. The meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
