VETERAN’S AFFAIRS COMMISSION

REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 7, 2009
                                        
                                                
  • Call to Order – Chair Bernie Corona called the regular meeting of the Veteran’s Affairs Commission to order at 7:09 pm on December 7, 2009 in Town Council Chambers.

B.      Roll Call - PRESENT: Bernie Corona, Dominic Fulco, Sr., Kirk Allison, J. Roger Pelletier, Paul Barry, Mary-Ann Roczynski, Stan deMello.
EXCUSED:        Arden Passaro           
ABSENT: Linda Carrasquillo

  • Approval of Minutes – Bernie asked the Commission to go over the minutes of the November 2, 2009 meeting. Dominic Fulco made a motion to accept the minutes of November 2, 2009, seconded by Mary-Ann.  It was unanimously voted to approve the minutes of the November 2, 2009 meeting.
  • Old Business  
A. Holiday Fest – Dom reported that the opening was successful.  There were different venues, everything was open to the public, but the numbers of attendees were down.

  • New Business  
  • Approval of 2010 Meeting Schedule – Dom made a motion to accept the 2010 schedule of meetings submitted to the Town Clerk, seconded by Paul Barry.  Voted down by the Commission; schedule not approved.  Open Discussion ensued: Will changing the occurrence of the meetings work for everyone?  How often?  Should meetings be consolidated or meet bi-monthly or quarterly?  
Kirk made a motion to revise the 2010 meeting schedule to meet bi-monthly, seconded by Paul Barry.  Unanimous vote. Motion carried.  Meeting schedule will be revised and clerk will submit to Town Clerks office.

  • Open Discussion
  • Bi-Centennial Square – not being used properly.  Letter to be sent out by the Patriotic Commission.  Should be a memorial for WWI and WWII vets there.  Discussed possibilities for plaques, radiant lighting, etc. Commission supports working with Patriotic Commission on this matter.  Commission will come up with proposals by March meeting.  Matter tabled until March.  
  • Bernie passed out a handout to Commission members on discounts that are offered to WWII Veterans going to Washington – Free flight information.
  • 2010 Budget – Bernie received budget information from the Town’s Finance Director.  There will be no changes in the Commission’s budget.  Clerk will submit paper work to the Finance Dept.
  • Payment of Bills – Kirk Allison made a motion to pay the clerk, seconded by Paul Barry.  Motion carried.
Adjournment – Dom made a motion to adjourn the meeting and it was seconded by Bernie.  Bernie adjourned the meeting at 7:51 p.m.
