03-21-12 Redevelopment Agency Meeting Minutes
A Regular Meeting of the EAST HARTFORD REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY was held in the Second Floor Conference Room, 740 Main Street, East Hartford, Connecticut on Wednesday, March 21, 2012.

  • CALL TO ORDER
  • The meeting was called to order at 6:07PM by Chairperson Pearson

  • APPROVAL OF MINUTES
  • February 15, 2012 regular meeting
MOTION  by Mr. Ryan, seconded by Mr. Maine to approve the minutes

  • CORRESPONDENCE
  • Mr. Jack LaPlante – Stories from the 1950’s
  • Mr. Pearson submitted a letter from Mr. LaPlante in which he is requesting stories of living in East Hartford during the 1950’s.
  • NEW BUSINESS
  • East Hartford Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) requested use of Daley Court
  • Mr. Dube reviewed the proposed usage of this site for CERT’s simulated disaster.  He reminded commissioners that this site has been used in the past for such exercises, and has the approval of Corporation Counsel, Risk Management, and the town’s insurance carrier (CIRMA).
MOTION  by Mr. Maine, seconded by Mr. Ryan to authorize the use of the Redevelopment Agency’s property located at 590 Burnside Avenue for CERT’s basic recruit training exercise.

  • OLD BUSINESS
  • 590 Burnside Avenue – Daley Court update
  • Mr. Choquette reported that he has spoken with William Fairbairn from New Samaritan and that he is on track for a site plan submittal in April 2012.
  • 550 Burnside Avenue Property – Marketing of the property
  • Mr. Choquette reported, as a follow up to the agency’s request for information regarding the hiring of a private broker, that an RFP would have to be developed.  Ms. Pearson requested that he work with the town’s engineering department to come up with a site analysis to be included with the RFP.  Mr. Matta inquired as to the hiring of a designer to possibly include specifics as to what type of project would work best.
  • 671 Burnside Avenue
  • Mr. Dionisos Malpetsas, owner of the adjacent lot, has continued to show interest in the property with no specific plans submitted.
  • 957 Main Street Property (Area II) – First Merchants, LLC
  • Mr. Choquette continues to speak with Tom York of First Merchants regarding the possible development on Area II.
