PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
November 18, 2009

Chairperson Margaret Byrnes called the regular meeting of the Patriotic Commission to order at 7:20 p.m. in the 2nd floor conference room of the Town Hall, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.


PRESENT:        Margaret Byrnes, Paul Barry, Patricia Begley, Richard Begley, Bernard Corona, Vincent Parys.
ABSENT: Mike Brinius, Victoria Brinius, Melodie Wilson.
EXCUSED:        Linda Carrasquillo, Charles Clarke, Albert Doak, Susan Tukey.
ALSO PRESENT:   Robin Parys, Clerk.

OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZENS/RESIDENTS TO SPEAK:


None.


APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  

Commissioner Vincent Parys made a motion to accept the minutes of the October 21, 2009 meeting.  Commissioner Richard Begley 2nd.
MOTION:
Motion passed.

       


CORRESPONDENCE: Commissioner Charles Clarke asked Chairperson Margaret Byrnes to extend his thanks to Commissioners Linda Carrasquillo, Bernard Corona and Vincent Parys for their assistance with the placement of the flags for Veteran’s Day.

BILLS: Motion made by Commissioner Patricia Begley to pay the clerk for the November 18 meeting.  2nd by Commissioner Bernard Corona.  Motion passed.   

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Commission budget is $13,493.00.


OLD BUSINESS:  Holiday Fest December 4,5,6,7, 2009.  Chairperson Margaret Byrnes handed out the sign up list requesting commission members to pick up & deliver the donations.

Commissioner Vincent Parys submitted another quote to Chairperson Margaret Byrnes for flags for 2010 (54 gross).  Chairperson Byrnes will submit this to Jack Martin

Chairperson Margaret Byrnes contacted the East Hartford Fire Department regarding the disposal of old flags.  The Department does not participate in such a ceremony.  Suggestions were made for the Commission having a ceremony prior to Memorial Day or Flag Day.
Commissioner Bernard Corona informed the commission that Commissioner Charles Clarke spoke with Kevin Keena regarding attaching a plaque to the stone at Bicentennial Square with the names of the World War II Veterans.

NEW BUSINESS:  Commissioner Bernard Corona submitted a letter regarding enhancement of Bicentennial Square which will be sent to the Mayor.  Commissioner Paul Barry will submit a sketch of the sight.
 
Miscellaneous: Commissioner Paul Barry made a motion to cancel the December 2009 meeting and hold the election of officers in January 2010.  Commissioner Vincent Parys 2nd.  Motion passed.

Commissioner Vincent Parys made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Commissioner Patricia Begley seconded.  Meeting adjourned at 8:30p.m.
