PATRIOTIC COMMISSION


REGULAR MEETING

February 18,2009


A quorum being present, Chairperson Margaret Byrnes called the regular meeting of the Patriotic Commission to order at 7:15 p.m. in the New Conference Room of the Town Hall, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.


PRESENT:   Margaret Byrnes, Patricia Begley, Richard Begley, Victoria Brinius, Albert Doak, Vincent Parys, Bernard Corona, Paul Barry

ABSENT:    Melodie Wilson

EXCUSED:   Elaine Carey, Chuck Clarke

OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZENS/RESIDENTS TO SPEAK:

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

MOTION:    by Commissioner Pat Begley to approve the regular meeting minutes of January 21, 2009.

Seconded by Commissioner Vincent Parys.  Vote was uncontested and unanimous.


CORRESPONDENCE:   

  • Chairperson Margaret Byrnes informed the commission that several of the units responded to the letters sent regarding a request for reduction of fees.  The responses have been favorable and discussion was postponed until next month.
  • Letter from Linda Russo resigning the Commission due to her appointment to the East Hartford Town Council.  Thank you Linda for your dedicated service.
  • Commissioner Paul Barry presented the commission with instructions and materials list for the cleaning of the headstones.  Chairperson Margaret Byrnes will present this information to Mayor Currey and Bill Taylor.

BILLS: Clerk presented bill for meetings and supplies.

TREASURER’S REPORT: $14,310.00 all allocated.


OLD BUSINESS: Memorial Day.


NEW BUSINESS:  

  • Flag Day Contest.  Discussion regarding the presentation of trophies in lieu of savings bonds for 2009.  Commissioner Corona made a motion to accept.  Commissioner Parys seconded.  Motion passed.  
  • Miscellaneous:  Letters of invitation to the 2009 Memorial Day Parade will be sent out within the next two weeks.  Chairperson Byrnes informed the commission that the police department is pleased with the change of the parade route.

ADJOURNMENT:

Commissioner Richard Begley made a motion and Seconded by Commissioner Paul Barry to adjourn at 8:15 PM. The Commission unanimously agreed to adjourn.
