PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
March 16, 2011
A quorum being present, Chairperson Margaret Byrnes called the regular meeting of the Patriotic Commission to order at 7:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room in the Town Hall, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENT: Margaret Byrnes, Paul Barry, Linda Carrasquillo, Edward Dettore, Vincent Parys, Eugene Pushefski, Susan Tukey, Melodie Wilson.
Excused: Patricia Begley, Richard Begley, Charles Clarke,
ABSENT: Bernard Corona.
ALSO PRESENT: Mayor Marcia LeClerc, Robin E. Parys, Clerk.

A quorum being present, Commissioner Susan Tukey motioned that the February 16, 2010 minutes minutes be approved. Commissioner Paul Barry 2nd.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Budget balance is $11,435.00
UNFINISHED/OLD/ BUSINESS: 2011 Flags have been ordered. 54 gross, hemmed @ .52. Parade staff safety vest order is pending. Re-naming of Bicentennial Square. Chairperson Margaret Byrnes informed the Commission that the Square was named in honor of the Town’s Bicentennial. Research into naming a section where the Veteran’s Memorials are located is being done. Dedication of the memorial for Sgt. Richard Ford will be Memorial Day weekend.

NEW BUSINESS: 2011 Flag Day Essay Contest. Commissioner Patricia Begley will contact the clerk concerning the date. Commissioner Susan Tukey expressed concern that all essays be “original”. Commissioner Paul Barry suggested the Commission purchase a 55 gallon drum of cleaner for the Veteran’s headstones, cost $827.51, cleans up to 5000 and inhibits mold growth. Tabled until April meeting. Mayor Marcia LeClerc will research donations for the chemical.
