MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
Monday, April 15th, 2013

PRESENT: Anthony Foran, Mary Mourey, Florence Schroeter, Debra Arrieta, and Charles Casella, Sally Pelletier, Todney Harris
ABSENCES: Rose Tavtigian, Gloria Visgilio-Lupi
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the March 18th, 2013 meeting were approved.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT
- The Librarian position is currently vacant. The position vacancy has been announced and interviews will be conducted in the near future.
Report of the Project Administrator:
Mary Martin the Raymond Library Addition Project Administrator reviewed the present status of the project as follows:
- The Design Team had a second and final meeting with Library Staff;
- Many of the recommendations of Staff are being incorporated in a revised design, including: major expansion of the circulation desk and space, reconfiguration of the Children’s Library, replacing part of the Aviation Display with a Children’s Puppet Theatre, Young Adult desk and storage, and establishment of several enclosed classrooms seating 4 to 8 persons;
- Space utilization in the Community Cultural Center is under review and decisions regarding the disposition of the collection during construction are under consideration;
- The selection for the Owner’s Representative is currently in progress;
- The State Library Board has approved the Town of East Hartford’s request to extend the State Library Construction Grant through April of 2014;
- The Town is considering hiring Nolan Lushingtion to assist with Collection Retention issues;
- It appears that the project will go out to bid in July 2013.
CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
- The Chairman has participated in the review meetings with Library Staff. He has also assisted Raymond Tubbs with the review of materials that have been stored in the bowels of the Library.
- The Chairman suggested that now would be an excellent time for Commission Committees to articulate the needs of the Community.

OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZEN’S TO SPEAK
Mary Martin, Special Project Coordinator for East Hartford Rotary, reported that the advertising wrap for the bookmobile being donated to the Town of East Hartford is currently under design. Program scheduling for the bookmobile will be developed by Library Staff. It is anticipated that the ribbon cutting for the bookmobile will occur next month, hopefully before Memorial Day.
Several members of the Commission expressed an interest in assisting with bookmobile field activities.
