Chair Prescille Yamamoto called the meeting of the Fine Arts Commission to order at 7:04 p.m. in Room 12 of the Cultural Center.
I. ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Regina Barall; Eileen Driscoll; Karen Howe; Maureen Rodgers; Judy Okeson; Dan Russell; Florence Schroeter; John Ryan; Sue Tukey; Prescille Yamamoto.
ABSENT: Terrye Blackstone (excused); Glynis McKenzie (excused); Hilde Mayranen-O’Brien (excused); Betty Russell (excused).
II. MINUTES

To approve the minutes of October 9, 2008
Corrections: Sue Tukey stated that she informed a Commissioner of her absence last month
because she was leaving for vacation so her absence was excused. Chair Yamamoto stated that Commissioners should contact the Chair when they are absent.
Judith Okeson noted the GHOE should not be abbreviated but the full title should reflect in the minutes – Greater Hartford Opera Ensemble.
Approved with corrections.
III. CHAIR’S REPORT
Chair Yamamoto stated that she has the New Britain Museum of Modern Art pass which has been laminated. She will keep it at home and requested that Commissioners phone her when they want to use it.
Chair Yamamoto will email Roger Moss in reference to the condition of the chairs in the meeting room.
Chair Yamamoto stated that sub-committees must now use their allocated monies for advertising their scheduled events.
Chair Yamamoto read a resolution for Nondiscrimination Certification for the CT Commission on Culture and Tourism. This resolution is needed to get the grant for the Magic Lantern Tour that took place in October.

IV. CORRESPONDENCE
Chair Yamamoto received the following correspondence for the Commission:
- Information from the New Britain Museum of Modern Art announcing the Judith Lieber exhibit.
-correspondence from Commissioner Glynis McKenzie reminding members to bring an item for a holiday basket for the Park and Recreation department next
month.
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS
Holiday Fest
Karen Howe had the contract for BUFFA. Cost is $400 and the Fine Arts Commission is sponsoring the program for Holiday Fest.
Karen received information that BUFFA would be available in the spring to perform.
Karen Howe reported that EHSYF will be providing a program for the Friday evening of Holiday Fest.
Drama/Lecture/Poetry No report at this time.
Music
Dan Russell reported he had heard an organist play at his church in Westbrook. The organist is a high school student. He will be contacting him to see if he is interested in performing in East Hartford.
Chair Yamamoto and Terrye Blackstone attended a program at Wesley Memorial Church. There was a dedication of the new organ the church would be using. She said they had a beautiful, simple sanctuary and should be considered as a venue.

Film Series
Chair Yamamoto reported on behalf of Glynis McKenzie. The titles of the films have been chosen and a report will be given next month.
Student Music and Art Award
Chair Yamamoto and Betty Russell will be making an appointment to meet with Emil Kopcha to discuss changes in the program.
Art
Dan Russell reported that the Cheney exhibit hosted 6500 people. The Curator will be speaking to the New Britain Museum of Modern Art to discuss an exhibit in state.
Children’s Programs
Chair Yamamoto and Hilde O’Brien will be scheduling an appointment to meet with Bea Piersa.
Dance
Regina Barall thanked Sue Tukey for her assistance with the Big Band performance in the spring.
Regina Barall reported she is scheduling a Big Band performance on February 21, 2009.
She is hoping to have a concert and dance on April 25, 2009.
EHSYF
Karen Howe reported a decision will be made on the upcoming summer performance in January 2009.
Karen announced a Spaghetti Supper/Silent Auction fundraiser this Saturday, November 15, 2008. Chair Yamamoto printed out information for the Commissioners.
A Cabaret and Auction will be held on April 4, 2009 at Veteran’s Memorial Clubhouse.
East Hartford Public Schools Mini-Grants
Letters and monies were dispersed through Emil Kopcha. There is still a concern about East Hartford Public Schools having control over the grant money. Next year one check will be issued to Mr. Kopcha to be placed in his special account and he will purchase the materials requested.
VI. OLD BUSINESS
Chair Yamamoto will review the list of Commissioners due for reappointments. She will be contacting Town Chairmen. She further stated that the Commission is still down one member.
