FINE ARTS COMMISSION
Meeting of March 10, 2011
Vice Chair Florence Schroeter called the meeting of the Fine Arts Commission to order at 7 p.m. in the absence of Chair Howe.
I. ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Regina Barall; Terrye Blackstone; Glynis McKenzie; Judy Okeson; Betty Russell;
Dan Russell; John Ryan ; Florence Schroeter; Sue Tukey; Prescille Yamamoto.
ABSENT: Karen Howe (excused); Hilde Mayranen-O’Brien; Maureen Rodgers; Roberta Sweeney.
II. MINUTES

III. CHAIR’S REPORT
- Paul Bisaccia posters were delivered to Joan Coates to hang at the University of Hartford.
- Florence Schroeter reported that she spoke with Maria Matusak in reference to the times the film series are shown.
IV. CORRESPONDENCE
- Letter from Roger Moss in reference to Podunk and Summer Series
- Email from Anna Lasley requesting the Commission place an ad in the “Guys and Dolls” program.
- Letter from Laura White thanking the Commission for their support.
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS
Dance – Around the World Dance Program April 10, 2011
Reggie Barall thanked the Commission for their support and the grant money approved for her various programs.
A Black History Month program was held which featured drummers, dancers and singers. Approximately 100 people were in attendance. She had contacted Chair Howe to get approval for the ad that was placed in the Gazette.
A movement program is being held at Willowbrook through a grant from Child Plan. Four year old students will have a total of 10 sessions taught by a dance teacher. Reggie suggests that this be a permanent program at Willowbrook. There will be an end of the year program for parents to attend.
Children’s Programs
Prescille Yamamoto has not heard from UConn as yet. She will investigate other options.
EHSYF - Cabaret – April 9, 2011.
Glynis McKenzie distributed flyers for the Cabaret. She stated that donations would be accepted for the auction items.
Drama/Lecture/Poetry – May 2011 No report.
Music – Paul Bisaccia program on May 15, 2011 from 2:00-4:00 pm First Church
The program is called the “Great American Piano Revisited”. Florence Schroeter has contacted First Congregational Church in reference to having the piano tuned prior to the concert. The Commission will pay for this service. John Ryan recommended that Channel 5 film the concert. Florence Schroeter will contact Paul Bisaccia for his approval.
Photography
John Ryan reported he is planning a spring exhibit with photographers specializing in landscape and portrait photography. He will be offering a master class with the photographers. There will be no cost involved.
Film Series - The Beat that My Heart Skipped (France) 3/12/11 7 pm
Bamako (African) – 4/9/11 7 pm
Discussion was held on the conflict with EHSYF Cabaret.
Art – Art League Demonstration - 3/13 Luciana Heinemann
Art League Demonstration – 4/10 – Marilyn Chrall
Terrye Blackstone reported that Luciana Heinemann will be doing her presentation at the EHCCC in room 12 from 2-4 pm.
Terrye further reported that Marilyn Chrall, a sculptor, will be doing a demonstration on April 10 at the EHCCC in room 12 from 2-4 pm.

VII. NEW BUSINESS
Advertising in “Guys and Dolls” program

To spend $100 out of the advertising budget to place an ad in the East Hartford High School “Guys and Dolls” program.
Approved.
It was recommended that the clerk follow through informing Anna Lasley and to send her a copy of the Fine Arts logo.

IX. MEMBER’S CONCERNS
The clerk informed Commissioners that she has been informed by Mayor Leclerc’s office that she will be restructuring Commissions as part of her budget process.
Florence Schroeter stated that she will need assistance with publicity for Paul Bisaccia’s performance. This will be placed on next month’s agenda.
Judy Okeson agreed to take all programs for Commission events until Hilde Mayranen-O’Brien returns as the Historian.
