1. CALL TO ORDER

A Regular Meeting of the East Hartford Economic Development Commission was called to order at 6:04 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 by EDC Commissioner Marilyn Pet, Chair.

  • Meeting Attendance
  • Ms. Pet reviewed the policy set forth in the September 5, 2007 minutes
  • Mr. Collins suggested sending out an attendance request one week prior to each monthly meeting.  He also inquired about conference call attendance.
  • Business Visitation
  • CCAT (221 Pitkin Street, EH) – April 19, 2011 5:30 p.m.
  • Please be sure to email Ms. Beckles with your availability if you have not already done so.
  • Main Street Initiative
  • A meeting was held on March 31, 2011, co-chaired by Marcia Leclerc, Mayor, and Ron Pugliese, President of the EH Chamber of Commerce, with Main Street business and property owners
  • Main Street clean-up will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2011 – more details to come.
  • The Farmer’s Market will be held on each Friday and now each Saturday with the latter’s location TBD.
  • Ms. Lash spoke about the possibility of a Business Improvement District where an additional 1% property tax on Main Street businesses would be set aside to be used at the discretion of the businesses.
  • Ms. Lash is continuing to lobby the EH delegation at the state level on Senate Bill 127, relating to the Neighborhood Assistance Act.  The act currently only extends certain tax credits to “C” Corporations, while the bill proposes to extend these credits to partnerships, “S” Corporations, and LLCs also.
  • Ms. Lash suggested that the Commission send out a press release notifying residents of the different programs that CEDF is offering, including, but not limited to, business loans and financial classes for small business owners.
  • NEW BUSINESS
  • Ms. Skowronek spoke on the particular issue a town resident had with the Inspections and Permits Department.  Mayor Leclerc is addressing the matter and is looking to assist the department with becoming more consumer friendly.
  • Mr. Collins asked about signage for Cabela’s along the major highway and exit ramps.
  • Mr. Collins also suggested that the Commissioners, along with the Mayor and Mr. Choquette, take a bus tour of East Hartford to notice the things that you don’t normally see on your day to day outings.
  • Ms. Pet spoke about her desire to create a town map.
