CALL TO ORDER

A Regular Meeting of the East Hartford Economic Development Commission was called to order at 6:01 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 by EDC Commissioner Marilyn Pet, Chair.

  • Meeting Attendance
  • Ms. Pet reviewed the policy set forth in the September 5, 2007 minutes and requested that Ms. Beckles send this to each Commissioner.
  • Business Visitation
  • CCAT (221 Pitkin Street, EH) – Wednesday, March 15, 2011 5:00 p.m.
  • Please be sure to email Ms. Beckles with your availability
  • Main Street Initiative
  • Ms. Lash will be setting up a meeting towards the end of March with the Main Street businesses and the Mayor’s office.  She will notify Commissioners of this meeting as they are welcome to attend.
  • Ms. Lash reported that Senator LeBeau introduced SB127 – An Act Concerning the Neighborhood Assistance Act in which he proposed to extend the tax credits to partnerships, LLC’s, and “S” Corporations.  As it reads to date, this is only available to “C” Corporations.  The bill has passed through the Commerce Committee and will be heard in the Finance Committee.  She suggested that Commissioners reach out to our Town’s delegation to voice their support of this change.

  • Business Outreach
  • Mr. Choquette reported on the parking issue that Valenti’s is having on Burnside Avenue and welcomes suggestions for possible locations within East Hartford.
  • Goodwin College Master Plan
  • Mr. Andrews and Mr. Harrell gave a presentation of the riverfront, past and present, along with what future development is in the works.  When all construction is complete on the Connecticut River Academy (110,000 sq.ft high school), The Academy for Advanced Design and Technology (f/k/a Pathways School), and the early childhood center (34,000 sq.ft school), the total investment in the Town of East Hartford will be in excess of $183 million.
  • Much of the riverfront as been acquired by Goodwin College with various buildings as well as a possible link up with existing nature trails.
  • The additional revenue to the Town with regards to building fees amount to $1.7 million.
  • Numerous accolades have been bestowed upon Goodwin College including the 2010 Project of the Year by the Northeast Economic Development Association, which includes eastern states from Maryland to Maine.
