CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Sirois called the meeting of the Beautification Commission to order at 7:34 p.m.
ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES OF AUGUST 5, 2010
Marylee Hickey made a motion to accept the minutes of the August 5, 2010 meeting. Seconded by Betty Russell. Approved.
OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZENS TO SPEAK: None.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Mary Mourey reported that the General Fund has $7967.69.
Remembrance Fund balance is $520.96.
COMMUNICATIONS: None.
CHAIR'S REPORT:
Chair Sirois emailed all previous participants in Holiday Fest. She also has submitted the permit application.
TREE WARDEN'S REPORT: None.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS
a. Beautification Award
- Residential
Betty Russell made a motion to award the Residential Beautification Award to the owners of 540 Hills Street. Seconded by Pat Byrnes. Approved.
- Business
Sue Kickery made a motion to award the Community Pride Award to Raymond Library. Commissioners discussed the lovely Central Avenue entrance that has been maintained by the East Hartford Garden Club. Seconded by Marylee Hickey. Approved.
Discussion was held on giving out a fall decoration award (not Halloween) for October. Commissioners will email addresses to the clerk and they will be sent as a group by October 28.
OLD BUSINESS
a. Lawn signs
Discussion postponed until Spring 2011.
b. Holiday Fest 2010
As mentioned in the Chair’s report, information was sent to previous participants. Chair Sirois discussed the job responsibilities for all Commissioners. Additionally, Marylee Hickey will make a spreadsheet of all events and Commissioners will sign up for various events so there is representation at all events.
CONCERNS OF THE COMMISSION:
- Brewer Street (across from St. Christopher), Roger Moss reported that this issue is now
in court. Police Chief Sirois will be working on the motorcycle issue.
- 700 Brewer Street - year
- RVs (with power cords) and boats in driveways throughout town
- Greenwood Street – insulation still showing, posters are now hung on the outside of the
front window.
- Portuguese Club
The clerk will notify Bonnie Nichols with these concerns.
PAYMENT OF BILLS:
Theresa Godreau (clerk) $ 75.00
Sue Kickery made a motion to pay the clerk and to approve the bills as submitted. Seconded by Mary Mourey. Approved.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business, Mary Mourey made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:32 p.m. Seconded by Pat Byrnes. Approved.
