Beautification Commission

Call to order:
Vice-Chair Hickey called the meeting of the Beautification Commission to order at 7:15 p.m.
Vice-Chair Hickey requested an addition to the agenda under New Business. Consideration to purchase signs for properties that win Beautification Awards.
Acceptance of minutes of MAY 6, 2010
Mary Mourey made a motion to accept the minutes of the May 6, 2010 meeting. Seconded by Sue Kickery. Approved.
Opportunity for citizens to speak: None.
Financial Report:
Mary Mourey reported that $4650 has been encumbered. The monies were encumbered for the following businesses: Vinnys, Botticellos, Shemans for plantings and Discount Trophy for frames. The balance is $153.55.
Remembrance Fund balance is $520.96.
Communications: None.
Chair's report: No report.
Tree Warden's RePORT:
Bill Taylor distributed the report for May 2010.
Old BUsiness: None.
New Business
Discussion was held on the list of properties for May 2010.
Mary Mourey made a motion to give the Residential Beautification Award for the Month of June 2010 to the owners of 77 Hills Street. Seconded by Pat Byrnes. Approved.
Sue Kickery made a motion to give the Business Beautification Award for the Month of June 2010 to the owners of 254 Burnside Avenue. Seconded by Pat Byrnes. Approved.
Discussion and recommendations were listed (see attached) for the July 2010 Awards. A list of these homes will be provided by the clerk. Commissioners can contact the clerk up to June 24 with additional recommendations and the final list will be emailed on June 25.
Vice Chair Hickey discussed having signs made up to place on the properties of the awardees. She has researched the cost and will get quotes from other businesses. Commissioners thought this would be a good idea and it will be an agenda item for the month of July.
Other Business None.
Concerns of the Commission:
The following concerns were brought up at the meeting:
- home on the corner of Main and Stanley Street
- 231 Maple Street – grass and debris
- Goodwin Street (near railroad tracks) – grass
- 184 Maple Street – auto repairs are being done all day long
- 787 Brewer Street - canvas hut fell over
- 567 Brewer Street – numerous vehicles on property
- 16 Grant Street – debris in yard, grass
- home near 191 High Street – large black overhang, cars parking under it
- RVs parked in front of yards, plugged in for electricity, etc. (266 & 119 Hills street)
- Maple Street (near Forbes Street) right hand side near park entrance – RV
- 75 Andover Road – was a building permit pulled?
- The clerk will inform Bonnie Nichols of these concerns.
- Great River Park – East Hartford side – letter to Mayor Currey will be sent
- From CT Blvd to South Prospect Street, trees need to be trimmed, hang over the road (on side of park.) The clerk will inform Roger Moss.
Payment of Bills:
Theresa Godreau (clerk) $ 75.00
Dolores Kehoe made a motion to pay the clerk and to approve the bills as submitted. Seconded by Sue Kickery Approved.
Adjournment:
There being no further business, Mary Mourey made a motion to adjourn the meeting at p.m. Seconded by Sue Kickery. Approved.
