Selectmen's Minutes 05/20/08
The weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on Tuesday evening, May 20, 2008 at 7:35 p.m.


Present: Theresa McNulty, Chairman; David L. Walsh, Clerk; Peter A. Hamilton

           Karen Grabau, Adm. Assistant


Not Present: George Samia, Town Administrator


Mr. Walsh expressed his thanks to residents for attending town meeting last week. Noted that he hopes that residents will stay involved and interested in town government.


M/Hamilton, s/McNulty, move to approve the minutes of the May 16, 2008 meeting

VOTE: Yes – McNulty, Hamilton; Abstain – Walsh


M/Hamilton, s/McNulty, a unanimous vote, move to approve the awarding of a contract to the bidders as listed under the SERGS DPW Supplies IFB for a twelve-month period commencing July 1, 2008.


M/Hamilton, s/McNulty, a unanimous vote, move to approve awarding a contract for paper supplies to W.B. Mason Co. Inc. as detailed, for a twelve-month period commencing July 1, 2008.


M/Hamilton, s/McNulty, a unanimous vote, move to approve the request of Deborah Masciulli of District 33-S Lions for use of Sachem Rock Farm on June 28, 2008

 

CORRESPONDENCE

           Announcement from Comcast of $1,000 scholarship award to Amy Reichenbach.


            Invitation from Patriotic Activities Committee to participate in the Memorial Day

ceremonies on the Common on May 26, 10 a.m. Mrs. McNulty will attend if possible.


Mr. Walsh noted that he would be away next week on May 26 & 27. Questioned whether the other Board members wanted to cancel scheduled meeting.


M/Hamilton, s/McNulty, a unanimous vote, move to approve canceling the May 27, 2008 scheduled Selectmen’s meeting and to schedule a joint meeting with the East Bridgewater School Committee regarding the appointment to fill a vacancy on the SE Regional School Committee.


BOARD DISCUSSION

A lengthy discussion regarding alternate energy supply solutions was held. Mr. Walsh noted that Selectmen have met with energy supplier company; need an energy audit; will look at all municipal and school buildings. It was noted that there are incentives and rebates for those taking advantage of alternative energy sources.


Jackie Kelley discussed her ideas regarding uses for Leland Farm, wind/solar/water energy farm; co-op farm plots, multi-use community uses.


Discussion on forming a committee to explore what is available to town and cost to town. It was noted that Rep. McCarthy and Sen. Joyce should be contacted for their input.


It was noted that the Open Space Committee is still looking for members so that they can work on Open Space Plan.  Interested residents should send letters of interest to Selectmen. Board members agreed to form a new committee to look into energy alternatives for town.


M/Hamilton, s/McNulty, a unanimous vote, move to form an Ad Hoc Energy Committee made up of 5 members to explore alternative energy sources for the Town.

REMINDERS

           Trolley Tour – GS Troop sponsoring at Sachem Rock Farm on June 8

Memorial Day Ceremonies on Common followed by chicken barbeque at Commercial Club


Mrs. McNulty reported on the “Spring Fling” events; noted that this may become an annual event.


Mr. Hamilton reported that the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts would be decorating veterans’ graves on Saturday.


Open Forum

No one was present.


M/Hamilton, s/McNulty, move to close Open Session and go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing pending litigation and for contract negotiations and will not be returning to Open Session.

VOTE: Yes – Hamilton, McNulty, Walsh; a unanimous vote in favor.
