BOARD OF SELECTMEN MINUTES Date: November 19, 2005
Present: John Tuffy, Chair; Elizabeth Sullivan, Vice-Chair; and Andre Martecchini, Clerk.
Also present: Mr. Tom Groux, Consultant

The meeting was convened at 8:00 AM on Saturday, November 19, 2005 for the purpose of interviewing the four final candidates for the Town Manager position. Meeting was held in the Ellison Room at the Senior Center, 10 Mayflower RD, Duxbury MA, and was open to the public.
From 8:00 AM -8:30 AM the Board discussed among itself the procedure they would follow in conducting the interviews and the questions to be asked of each candidate.
Just prior to the interviews The Chair announced that one of the previously-named candidates from the short list, Mr. Michael Jaillet, Town Administrator of the Town of Westwood, did withdraw his name from consideration. Accordingly, the Town Manager Selection Committee invited the next candidate on the selection list, Mr. Richard MacDonald, Acting Town Manager and Director of Inspectional Services of the Town of Duxbury, to interview with the Board of Selectmen. Each candidate was also informed of this at the beginning of his/her interview.
Each candidate was introduced to the Board by Mr. Tom Groux. At the beginning of each interview Mr. Tuffy explained to the candidate the interview process. Each candidate was told that in addition to telling the Board about himself/herself, the Board would ask him/her a series of questions all the candidates would be asked, and then at the end he/she could ask the Board questions or make a closing statement.
Mr. Tuffy also let the candidates know that it was the Board’s intention to name two finalists at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday evening (November 21, 2005). The Board would then like the finalists to come to Duxbury to meet with the Department Heads /town employees and to see the town. The Board would also like to visit the candidate’s in their current Town, probably the week after Thanksgiving. If named as a finalist the Board will initiate a background check.
At 8:30 AM Mr. Richard MacDonald, Acting Town Manager/Director of Inspectional Services of the Town of Duxbury, was introduced to the Board. After Mr. Tuffy outlined the process, as explained above, the interview began. The interview ended at 9:05 AM.
Break was taken in the Meeting to allow the Board of Selectmen to attend the opening of the new Animal Shelter. Meeting reconvened with the introduction of the next candidate.
Meeting was reconvened at 10:25 AM.
At 10:30 AM Mr. James Boudreau, Town Administrator of the Town of Norwell, was introduced. Mr. Tuffy outlined the interview process, and the interview began. The interview ended at 11:15 PM.
At 11:30 AM Ms. Sheila Vanderhoef, Town Administrator of the Town of Eastham, was introduced. Mr. Tuffy outlined the interview process, and the interview began. The interview ended at 12:15 PM.
At 12:35 PM Mr. James Malloy, Town Administrator of the Town of Sturbridge, was introduced. Mr. Tuffy outlined the interview process, and the interview began. The interview ended at 1:20 PM.
ADJOURNMENT
At 1:20 PM, Ms. Sullivan made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Martecchini provided a second for the motion, which carried unanimously (3:0).
