BOARD OF SELECTMEN March 8, 2003
The meeting was called to order at 8:45 a.m. Present were Chairman John Tuffy, Selectmen Elizabeth Sullivan and Andre Martecchini and Town Manager Rocco Longo.
OPEN FORUM
Debbie Bowen, Debbie Jewell and Steve Jones, all members of the Steering Committee of the Student Union Organizing Group, were in attendance for Open Forum. Mr. Martecchini noted he wanted to make sure that they understood, if Article 21 is passed and the Town votes to accept gifts and grants for the purpose of making the space to be occupied in the Wright Building by the Student Union compliant with all requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, it will not automatically give use of the building to the Student Union. He also noted that returning any money accepted as gifts and/or grants can be complicated, if the project doesn’t go. Ms. Bowen, Ms. Jewell and Mr. Jones noted they understood.
CPC LAND ACQUISITION - THE SWANSON PROPERTY (ARTICLE 13)
The Board reviewed the Purchase & Sales agreement prepared by Town Counsel, Robert Troy for the purchase of Paul Swanson’s land on Franklin Street, identified as Duxbury Assessors’ Lot 020-033-000 and consisting of 11.52 acres for a purchase price of $71,800 plus costs, for a total of $76,000. Mrs. Sullivan noted the Purchase & Sales document did not speak to the possibility of hazardous waste on the site. The Board decided not to sign the document until Town Counsel has addressed this concern.
