Community Preservation Committee Meeting

The Community Preservation Committee (CPC) held a meeting in the Mural Room, Lower Level of the Town Hall on Thursday, October 19, 2006 beginning at 8:00 a.m. Members present included Chairman Holly Morris, Nancy Bennett, Tony Kelso, Brendan Keohan, Pat Loring, Sarianna Seewald and George Wadsworth. Also present was Frank Mangione, Fiscal Advisory Committee and Joe Grady, Conservation Administrator.
PUBLIC FORUM
Ruth Rowley, 546 Washington Street discussed her letter dated July 11, 2006 that she submitted to the CPC. Ms. Rowley recommended that the CPC review its goals for the next five years and concentrate on land acquisition. Ms. Rowley also suggested that the CPC hold public hearings to allow residents’ input prior to the CPC making decisions on the projects.
PROJECT UPDATES
Loring & Nudd Land Acquisitions – Mr. Grady reported the Town now owns the two properties.
Wright Building – Members of the CPC commented on the site visit held October 19, 2006.
2007 FUNDING REQUESTS
Copies of the funding requests for 2007 Annual Town Meeting were distributed to the CPC. The CPC had a general discussion on the funding requests, but wanted to review the applications in more detail and invite the applicants to the next CPC meeting before discussing the proposals at length.
Tarkiln Plans & Specs. – The Historical Commission submitted a funding request for $107,800 for plans and specifications for the restoration of the Tarkiln Building.
Historical Survey –The Historical Commission submitted a funding request for $6,000 to complete the survey of historical properties in the Town.
Synthetic Turf Athletic Fields – Duxbury P.R.I.D.E Fields, Inc. submitted a request for $1,000,000 for two turf athletic fields at the site of the Ellison High School Chandler Field and Duxbury Middle School football field.
Grange Acquisition – The Local Housing Partnership (LHP) submitted a request for $60,000 for the acquisition of the Grange property for affordable housing.
Grange/Old Firehouse Plans & Specs. - LHP submitted a request for $10,000 for plans and specifications to renovate the Grange and Old Firehouse for affordable housing units.
OTHER BUSINESS
The CPC discussed the need of signage to highlight the properties where CPA funds have been used.
ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS
The CPC signed bills from Aaberg Associates for plans for the Loring & Nudd properties.
