Vote to approve the Minutes of the February 26, 2009 meeting:  Moved and seconded; minutes approved.

Treasurer Report: Julia Burgess: The only current treasurer business is to request that the county transfer the Health Council’s balance of $4000. to the Access Project, keeping $100 for miscellaneous transactions Russell Smith explained that the county is protocol based and they can’t move money from one budget to another. He advised that we could request a budget transfer to the County Advisory Board. Our request would be included in the county’s end of the year process with other transfers on the table. Lenny Jason offered his agreement with this method, commenting that it is good management. The transfer request will be pursued, as voted last month.

Nominating Committee: Chris Knowles:  Chris introduced his new position with the county as Associate Commissioner for Public Health and Catherine Mancuso who joins us as the Associate Commissioner for Elder Affairs. Tom Hallahan will join as County Commissioner. The Council has 14 reappointments in process. Next month we will be voting in 6 new members, 3 practitioners and 3 consumers. The candidates are, for practitioner; Stephen Danzig, Dimengo Pagan, MD, Bobi Lima, LPN, and Lisa Nagy, MD. For Consumers; Susan Wasserman, Valerio Destefani and Connie Teixeira.

The next step for the Nominating Committee will be to replace the vacancy on the Coordinating Committee as Chris steps down as Vice Chair. Chris hopes to pick up the vision and work of Dr. Ilene Klein as Public Health Commissioner with three main areas of focus. They are; communication among providers, preventative care – providers aware of public diseases, and data collection and analysis.

Sarah Kuh informed us of a Vineyard Smiles pilot project with the Island Elderly housing population and that the 4/17grand rounds will be lead by Dr. Silk, a pediatric oral health practitioner.

Allyson Thornton, an Island Health Care Medical Assistant and Tobacco Treatment Specialist talked with us about a DPH supported project the clinic is engaged in focusing on tobacco assessment and treatment for all their patients.

Due to school vacation week falling in our regularly scheduled meeting time, we agreed to move the next Dukes County Health Council meeting to April 30th ,  same time, same place.

Dedie adjourned the meeting at 9:06AM.

Respectfully submitted, Terre D. Young
