Call to order
Chairman Paul Strauss called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. A quorum was present. Commissioners Carlene Gatting, Tristan Israel, Lenny Jason and Roger Wey were present as well as County Manager E. Winn Davis, and Jennifer Caton, Executive Assistant.
Other representatives or visitors present included County Treasurer Noreen Mavro Flanders, County Emergency Management Director Chuck Cotnoir, Chris Knowles, Paddy Moore, and MVTV.
Associate Commissioner Report
Associate Commissioner for Health Care Access – Ilene Klein, MD
Dr. Ilene Klein gave a brief description of the projects that had been completed over the last year and a half. The projects included the Tick Born Disease Symposium, participation in the Medical Reserve Corp, and participation in the Flu Clinic.
Dr. Klein also provided a detailed power point presentation to the Commissioners on the Local Public Health Survey. See the Attached Power Point Presentation.
At the end of the presentation Chris Knowles, Paddy Moore, and Chuck Cotnoir members of the Public Health Committee provided additional comments.
Chris Knowles pointed out that the scoring of indicators depended heavily on the participants in each group. Chuck Cotnoir said that being involved in the Public Health Survey reinforced the idea that there needs to be a whole community approach rather than on an individual town basis. Paddy Moore said that she was struck by how much was going on the island, yet there was a lack of connections. She also stated there is a real need for an island-wide system.
Paddy Moore expressed the importance of the continuation of the work that is being done. She said the selection of the next Associate Commissioner is important and should be a priority.
Dr. Ilene Klein stressed the importance of being proactive in the health of the island. She said it is an important role for the County to play. She urged that the Commissioners find a strong Associate Commissioner to continue and public health stays a priority.
Paul Strauss presented Ilene Klein with a gift on behalf of the County Commissioners, County Manager, and County Treasurer.

· A meeting to discuss Eastville Beach will be on Wednesday, April 18, at noon.
· The Dukes County Airport Commission will meet on Wednesday, April 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the Airport Administration Building.
· The Dukes County Commission will meet on Wednesday, April 25 at 5 p.m. at the County Administration Building.
