A Special meeting of the County of Dukes County Commissioners was scheduled for Saturday May 3, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. at the Tisbury Senior Center, notice of such meeting having been posted as required by law.

Chairman Alley called the meeting to order at 9:00 AM thanking the Search Committee for their work and setting the ground rules for the interviews of the two finalists for the position of County Manager, Laurie Perry and E. Winn Davis. Ms. Perry was interviewed first. Ms. Perry works at present as Tribal Administrator. Mr. Davis, current Executive Secretary of the Town of Hanson, MA, was interviewed second. At the end of each interview, there was an opportunity for Public comment.
Chairman Alley asked the Commissioners if they wished to vote right then or if they would prefer to wait. Commissioners Jason, Wey, Leland, and Alley said they wanted to vote right then. Commissioner Sawyer said he was willing to do it either way. Commissioners Strauss and Smith voted to wait. The vote to continue with the process and vote right then Passed.
Chairman Alley called for the Commissioners’ votes on the candidates. Commissioners Jason, Wey, Sawyer, Alley, and Leland voted for Ms. Perry. Commissioners Strauss and Smith voted for Mr. Davis. It was announced that Ms. Perry had been voted the new County Manager. Ms. Perry thanked the Commissioners and noted she would have to meet with them to begin contract negotiations. Chairman Alley thanked Mr. Davis. Ms. Vera Shorter thanked Mr. Davis as well, then thanked the County Commissioners adding their process had been ‘very Democratic.’
The meeting adjourned at 12:26 PM.
