Caregiver support group, Healthy Aging Task Force
Present: Inez Janger, Stanley Schonbrun, Polly Simpkins, Ellen McCabe (by phone), Terre Young.
The minutes of the March meeting were reviewed and accepted.
- Inez informed us that the Coordinating committee of the HATF met on 4-17 and basically accepted all the various committee work plans. An anonymous gift has been received and the island Greenhouse model feasibility study has some funding.
- There are a number of potential grants in the works for funding of projects. Kathleen Samways is working on these efforts with Peter Temple.
- The one stop group is looking at the Eldercare website for Delaware. Very informative site.
- The whole group will meet on May 22nd at the Hebrew Center, from 9am to 12:30. Ann Harstein, the Secretary of Elder Services for MA. All groups will be presenting their work plans at this meeting and the information will be very interesting. Please mark your calendars if you havenít already!
At our next meeting Stanley and Rosetta will give an overview of the website information they have gathered. Terre will review her work with a look at the contents in context of caregivers.
Polly and Stan will give Ellen their list of caregiver needs and information and Ellen will collate and create the list with relevance to the other working groups. We will all look at what is the best way to support information getting to caregivers. What we need to establish is what they need and what we donít have. We had an interesting discussion to understand what our role is in the grand scheme of this project. We are looking for something innovative that other communities off island are doing and we might be using as a model for the island. (in the context of caregivers)
Ellen shared that she found a great resource for information on the cape from Shine counselors and she will research that information for the island.
Our next meeting will be Thursday, May 8th at 1:30 in the hospice office. We will work on the presentation of our work plan for the May 22nd meeting.
