Fall Happenings in Town

As the season changes, I hope everyone is looking forward to a great autumn! There is an abundance of activities for you and your family to partake in over the next couple of months and I hope everyone enjoys all of what Colchester has to offer.

This Sunday, there is the annual Pumpkins ‘N’ Pooches sponsored by the Colchester Lions from 9AM – 4PM on the Town Green. I have the distinct pleasure of serving on the panel of judges again and I’m looking forward to all the creative costumes and tricks the dogs of Colchester put on display!

On Friday, 10/26 starting at 6PM, our 3rd annual Trick or Trunk will take place. Please bring your car, kids, and costumes to the Town Green for a great night of trick or treating.

Also, for those interested in burning off some of the extra calories from all the holiday treats, there is the Ghost Run on the Airline Trail. On Saturday, 11/3, runners from Colchester and surrounding towns will run (or walk) 13.1 miles on the Airline Trail. If you haven’t been on the Airline Trail, this is a great opportunity to see this fantastic natural resource we have in the area.

As Fall comes to a close, don’t forget about the Holiday Homecoming on 12/1. Bring the kids to see the tree lighting, tell your holiday wishes to Santa, a bon fire, and other festivities. All of these events and more are brought to you by the town and our many generous local organizations, businesses, and sponsors.

Lastly, don’t forget to visit the farmer’s market as it hits the road in October. For the next four Sundays, the market will be at Cato Corner Farm (10/7), Zagray Farm (10/14), the Town Green (10/21), and the Savitsky Farm (10/28). It will be great to see the market in these new locations!

Fall Safety Note

As the weather turns cooler, many of us will begin to fire up our furnaces and fireplaces. Please make sure your furnace and fireplace is inspected and cleaned as needed. Also, the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning increases this time of year with the higher usage of furnaces.

Take a moment to make sure you have a functional carbon monoxide detector with working batteries. Carbon monoxide is an odorless gas and you’ll likely never know of its presence without a detector. So take a quick minute to ensure you and your family are properly protected. It may save your life.
