Police Update

As many of you know, there have been some changes on the Police Commission and with the Police Department. The Board of Selectmen has added two new members to the commission and I am confident that new members Ed Fusco and Stanley Nolan will help move the commission forward along with veteran member Rob Parlee.

The new commission wasted no time in getting down to work. At their first meeting, they hired a new officer and promoted another. Officer Dimauro will hopefully be on the road in the next few weeks. Officer Dimauro and has worked for other departments in the past and is already certified as a police officer. Hiring a certified candidate means that we do not have to wait over six months for someone to be trained in the police academy. After a few weeks of field training, Officer Dimauro will be on patrol with the rest of the department.

The commission also promoted Officer First Class Rob Suchecki to the rank of Sergeant. The implementation of this position has been a long time coming and Rob will be Colchester’s first ever Sergeant. Three officers tested for the promotion and the commission ultimately chose Rob. Rob has been the School Resource Officer for a year and a half now and has excelled in that position. He has shown the ability to tackle new assignments and deliver results over his twenty year career here in Colchester.

As a result of his promotion, Rob will be departing as the School Resource Officer and a new officer will be rotated in. I wish Rob well in his new assignment and know that he will make us all proud.

Public Works Director Leaving

For 17 years, Mark Decker has faithfully served Colchester as our Public Works Director. It is with mixed feelings that I have to announce his departure. On one hand, I’m incredibly happy that he will be going to work for another municipality and will be able to progress in his career. On the other hand, I’m very sad that we’ll be losing such a great talent that has helped Colchester out tremendously.

Throughout his tenure, Mark has overseen many projects, kept the roads in good order, and managed all the highway, transfer station, fleet maintenance, and sewer and water operations. The management of our infrastructure is a critical function that not many can appreciate. Sometimes, we only notice things when something breaks or goes wrong.

Mark has been a critical person in maintaining these functions and his knowledge, insight, and experience have been an invaluable aid to me when making decisions. Everyone in town hall wishes Mark well in his new position and I firmly believe that we are a better town because of his work.
