MONTHLY OFFICER’S MEETING

MEMBERS PRESENT: Chief Cox,  DC William Standish, 1AC Don Lee, 2AC McKenna,   HSO Capt Dan Rowland, Lt Dave Barnes, Lt Steve Morris, Eng Babineau, , Lt. Brown, Eng Erickson, Pres.Dave Martin
Chief Cox called the meeting to order @ 19:02hrs, moment of silence for CSPTFC Kenneth Hall, killed in the line of duty. Marine Corp. veteran.
Approval of Minutes: re:  August 9, 2010:  Motion to accept;  AC Lee:, seconded by DC Standish  (request to increase font).
Citizen’s Comments:  none
Budget Issues : past week: hose testing: 24,100 ft tested – put 1950 ft out of service from hose tender. Identified 900’ of 3” hose from 1995. In hose bed of ladder, ET1, ET3. Still in service.  Pump testing – except ET 228,
Svc 128 had utility bed put on
ET-328 front hub/seals replaced
Hose failure needs to be monitored. Taking potential failure out of system. Current budget will only support limited replacement.

Career Staff/Personnel:  Mike Kuchyt – tendered resignation effective 9/5/10. Thanked him for time. Chief Officers will be interviewing candidates.
Defosse family will be moving to Texas. Losing 2 members.
Capt.Papp –  pointed out in letter – difficulty getting qualified SCBA crews – will be working on it.
All responsible for full staffing. Need to be cognizant of full staffing. Mutual aid automatically started. Need to respect officers on scene, fit into command system seamlessly. We need to respect our members and those of other towns. Apparatus drivers- crew members must be identified via KX for call so OIC can know who is coming to scene. New ET-2 in Company 2 feasibility? – it is going to company 2 to replace the American LaFrance[reserve piece] as frontline apparatus..  Space issue to accommodate will be looked at.
Training:  2nd AC McKenna – had 1st class of protocols, will have Friday day class for paid staff.  Also have EMS Hazmat class on 26th for everyone to meet requirements, to be taught by Gary Allen.  Attendance can count as regular hours.  Chief Lee’s propane mock up will add to hazmat hours.  EMT refresher class next month – sign up sheet in radio room. If members need additional hours they can sit in class. Live Burns due to Oct.  – dates to follow. Facility not ready yet – may go back to Lebanon. Schuster Pk – will need more help to get facility up and running. Great progress, lots of donations – lights, power, offer to do welding at no charge. Then roof, stairs, props. Forms for all props all made – waiting to pour concrete.
ET2 training penciled in.  Domenic Colletti Jr – waiting for PO approval for foam training class. Hail coming 10/2 for pump training (Colletti sr), Sat 10/16 – classroom portion for         Sun 10/24 to burn house on Lebanon Ave. for structure training.
EMS: Class currently being held w/ MMC-M Dr. Polocheck downstairs.
Captain’s Reports: 
Fire 1 –  .Capt Papp –  absent
Company 2 – Capt Guidice : absent (K. Erickson for) ET3 will be at Hebron Fair, as well as Gator. Ambulance will be responding from here.
Chief & D. Rowland will be bringing ambulance to Cromwell for display of new vehicle.
Open House First Line-Ladder 128 to have waterway seals replaced.
Rescue: Capt Knowles:  absent. 
Fire Police Capt. Jones: absent – in Baltic re: state parade 9/19 in New London
Safety – D. Rowland – recommend apparatus used to keep people safe.  Large bulk of propane shipped to Mass.  Distributed locally – it is odorless.  Fire Marshall issued a cease & desist to stop using product to ensure there is mercaptin in product.  If it is missing it can be added. Anyone that received product from Bemers, Amerigas, and Daniels can have their delivery tested (since March 2010) by state, for compliance.

2nd AC McKenna – recognize Lt Barnes & FF Albert for dramatic changes around company 1 & Schuster Park – appreciated. Convention attendance will be fun.
Chief Cox – Cougar schedule (EMT w/ radio)– willing to pay $15.00 / hr – dates posted.  5 dates needed. Varsity football has ambulance.
 Salesman coming in this evening to discuss night time lighting.
Dumpster relocated to vehicle shelter. Fire Police has requested if any equipment has been taken off their vehicle – please return it.
Pres. Dave Martin – repeated cudos to Carl & Dave.  Hebron fair covered. Thurs. night meeting will include short tribute to 9/11 – little presentation / bag pipe. British invasion will commence tomorrow evening. Essex fire service will present a brother football player from England will be here. Drum up convention participation.  Over 200 pieces of apparatus, 90 bands, E.Lyme HS will have 30 vendors.
Cudos to Dave for drumming up $$ needed to put on convention.
