MEMBERS PRESENT: Chief Cox,  DC William Standish, 1AC Don Lee, 2nd AC McKenna, EMS Capt Evans,  HSOCapt Dan Rowland, Lt Dave Barnes, Lt Steve Morris, Eng Babineau, Lt Cwikla
 
Chief Cox called the meeting to order @ 19:00hrs, recognize Rosemary Coyle,  BOS liaison, Cathy Pompei, BOF liaison,   Rob Esteve,  BOF 
Cptn Guidice, Cptn Papp attending wake of fellow Firefighter from PBFD
FP Capt Jones out due to surgery.
 
Approval of Minutes:  June  7, 2010:   Motion to accept;  AC Lee:, seconded by AC McKenna
 
Citizen’s Comments:  none
 
Budget Issues :FY 2009/10 – big areas over: vehicle maintenance over $13,000 , and physicals / testing.
And ambulance billing.  Did not go over overall budget - $33,000 remaining. 
TY: annual inspection of ladder resulted in finding of leaking waterway and nozzle, and internal part (worm gear part). Will try to repair in house.
Also Firematic inspection of hydraulic lines resulted in findings of $2300.00 of broken hydraulic lines.
 
Career Staff/Personnel: Cptn Jones in hospital – to be in rehab Friday.
Reviewing a flex week, alternating shift change w/ FF Knowles, FF Dombrowski, FF DeAngelis, FF Fischer to give the night crew day exposure, and the day crew exposure to night shifts. TRIAL basis.
Recent resignations:  Hasan Long by text message,  ?? gear turned in??,  not official – not conveyed in person.
Lt Lee has asked for an exit interview to find out WHY person is leaving. (may be personal family)
Safer / recruitment & retention $ has been applied for – will reimburse people for training.
Recent renovations in radio room area: created admin office, and we will review remaining area to be configured as a back up KX dispatch area.
Pig roast is coming up.
 
Training: August traditionally off from training w/ exception of new member orientation.  Some short notice training may occur – if given 2-3 dys notice.  September goal for HAZMAT training.  VFIS is sponsoring driving training instructor program – can send 1 person for free   8/13, & 8/14  6-10,8:30-5:00.  Will post for interested parties.
Schuster Pk : Thursday 7/14 will drill for sonitubes for foundations. N,Wallick/ Bobcat of Hartford donated drilling bits. Permit in place.
July / August calendar is posted. Mark I training  refresher is mandatory.  Will be scheduled for this year. (asked for by R. Esteve). State may be dropping funding for this program.
EMS : Refresher in making for 10/16-17,  23-24,  waiting for approval by OEMS. ?? 12,14,16,17,19,21 original dys scheduled. Paperwork has not changed on line yet – may be able to get in under old hours. EMS Committee discussed “ lead tech” process. May be revised w/ approval of officers: all lead techs as of this writing, if they are comfortable w/ calls , familiar w/ rig & operation, etc.– they can go out on calls.  Lt Lee moved to accept policy,  AC McKenna seconded.
EMS Charts: patient care reporting: Audrie made changes so the mandatory fields will be filled out. Jean Walsh  asked her to inform people of some old charts being demoted due errors identified by EMS Charts. (conflicting data such as blood pressure #’s,  and the use of the word ‘normal’).
October – HAZMAT drill.
3 defibs now in our house donated from Colchester Police. They have been calibrated, and certified.  Will house here, and on new truck.
Captain’s Reports: 
Fire 1 –  .Capt Papp – absent/wake
Company 2 – Capt Guidice : absent/wake
Rescue : Cptn Knowles : absent – alpha pagers having issues. AC Standish to follow up w/ KX to find out why times are not being sent to the pagers. Problem in ambulances.
EMS: A Evans- see above :  CPR save – recognized some members:  see monthly meeting minutes.
Fire Police Capt. Jones –  absent
Safety – D. Rowland – ethanol destroying carburetors:  will be trying new small engine mixture instead of tool fuel. Will be changing all gas cans. 6 mth trial.  2 new ARAP units in stock/R128. Same mask as Viking.                                    

Chief Officer’s Reports

DC Standish-.nothing to report.
1 AC  Lee –  Letter from: Ken McKenna III asking for appt to Engineer on Forestry 128. Motion to take him up on offer – he is fully qualified.  DC Standish seconded.  Chief:  done AC McKenna abstained.
2nd AC McKenna –  mid yr chat w/ officers due, will set up date. May do an EMS only chat as well.
Squad 128 was off line.  New ambulance had to go back to Greenwood ambulance.  It was emitting radio interference. They replaced all electronic control panels in dash and module.  NO Charge.
Don Lee worked w/ water dpt for  a reconditioned well at company 2, meets all conditions w/ state.
Septic tank at company 2 was recently pumped out (7/7/10)
Lake Rd in Bozrah – closed due to bridge replacement. Do have access to water supplies.
CBA asked for use of the meeting room for 10/5 – approved.
Phil from water dept asked for meeting room – for a benefit dinner for Joe Ballek 8/18/10. Approved.

9/19 – New London – Ct State Firefighters Convention
7/31 pig roast,    Hebron Fair Dunkin Donuts,   Christmas Tree fundraising events – pending (no one wants to chair this committee.)
Aug. meeting – has been a while since we have had a meeting at company 2 – will have August 12, 2010 COMPANY meeting there,  w/ dedication to Gary Avery plaque to be placed on ambulance.
Governor has approved bonding for regional fire schools – we entered into a contract for a month-by-month lease for a regional training school.  $500,000 went forward to purchase land. Atty handling estate is willing to sell land for less than bonded amount.
