Chilmark Board of Selectmen July 12, 2011 Public Hearing
Peddlers in Chilmark
Present: Chairman Frank Fenner, Jonathan Mayhew, (Warren Doty absent), Tim Carroll,
Andy Goldman, Jane Slater,
At 3:00 pm Chairman Fenner called the Public hearing on Peddlers in Chilmark open in the selectmen’s meeting room.
Mr. Goldman spoke about the Fire Department soliciting donations in Menemsha and wanted that to be understood as not pedaling.
Mrs. Slater agreed that this was not pedaling.
Mr. Fenner said that Municipal Non Profits are allowed to solicit donations in Menemsha.
3: 08 pm Chairman Fenner moved to close hearing. Mr. Mayhew seconded the motion.
SO VOTED: 2 Ayes
Mr. Fenner motioned to amend the existing ordinance to remove the language “food stuff, beverages” to read: prohibit all peddlers in Menemsha, Squibnocket Beach and Lucy Vincent Beach areas. Mr. Mayhew seconded the motion. SO VOTED: 2 Ayes
Police Chief Brian Cioffi will be notified of these changes and will enforce the Town ordinance.
There was discussion of striped bass commercial fishermen. There were New York and
New Jersey commercial stripe bass fishermen were parking vehicles with trailers in Menemsha. “Striper” Steve has been leaving his truck on Karsten Larsen’s lot all week long.
Mr. Fenner moved to adjourn. Mr. Mayhew seconded the motion. SO VOTED: 2 Ayes
