Chilmark Planning Board Subcommittee Meeting

Meeting called to order at 10:30AM:
- Accessory Apartment Bylaw Amendment Review for Informational Meetings: April 1 & 9:
- The subcommittee members reviewed the bylaw and questions about it in preparation for the informational meetings.
- It was agreed to bring focus to the caregiver/family member allowance due to that being the first reason for initiating the bylaw amend.
- It was agreed to emphasize that the accessory apartment may be converted to a guest house, a detached bedroom or affordable housing, if needed.
- A question of whether a beach sticker would be allowed to an occupant of an accessory apartment was considered. It was decided to determine the rules for obtaining a beach sticker and have that information ready for the informational meetings.
- A question was submitted of whether a lot owner who has a main house, guest house and an accessory apartment, and they live in the accessory apartment, could rent both the main and the guest house. It was agreed that the lot owner could do this as long as the other requirements are followed.
- The members reviewed the powerpoint to be shown at the informational meetings. Changes were made.
- Ms. Jones visited the meeting and mentioned two areas to emphasize: the addition of an accessory apartment amendment to the bylaws will assist in providing safer housing due to the fact that inspection will be made by the DCRHA if it is affordable housing. And, it provides the safety and companionship for elderly residents.
