Staff: Jennifer Christy, Administrative Asst., Chuck Hodgkinson, Administrative Asst.
Meeting called to order at 3:05PM:
- Chair Weidner called the meeting to order. Pam Goff has requested the subcommittee look at the possibility that the new bylaw that limits living area square footage (Art. 6, Residential Regulations) may discourage people from saving old houses on their lots.
- Discussion occurred regarding what has been done to this point to discourage the demolition and/or the renovation of old houses.
- Discussion continued regarding how the current town bylaw, Demolition of Historically Significant Buildings, may be amended to further restrict the demolition and/or significant renovation of historical buildings.
- Mrs. Goff noted that the town bylaw came from another town.
- Mrs. Goff suggested the promotion of historical buildings in town.
- Mrs. Goff also suggested that the antique houses not be counted in the living area square footage calculation.
- Discussion continued regarding how the antique houses could be protected further by amending the zoning bylaws.
- Chair Weidner suggested that more research is needed to determine whether there are a significant number of structures in town that are antique AND are on larger lots---3 acres or more.
- Chair Weidner suggested that the 79 houses listed in the Master Plan be looked at to see how much acreage is associated with each of the houses and a calculation be done to determine to how much living area would be allowed on each of the lots.
- Ms. Malkin inquired what governs the renovation of historic houses. Mr. Hodgkinson suggested speaking with the Building Inspector, Lenny Jason, to find out what the regulations are regarding historic buildings.
- Minutes: March 10, 2014 were approved.
Meeting adjourned at 4:15PM. Minutes respectfully submitted by Jennifer L. Christy
