Members Present:
Jim Malkin (Chairperson), Ann Wallace, Jane Slater, Clark Goff, Leonard Jason, Peter Cook
Members Not Present: Ursula Goodenough
Members of the Public: Jeff Herman
Staff:
- Chairperson Malkin opened the meeting at 8AM.
- Discussion occurred with Mr. Herman regarding the Chilmark Community Center. Mr. Herman discussed:
- New phase for the Chilmark Community Center
- Volunteer and participation has declined
- Changes in the summer community, events and organization
- No potluck
- Average stay for visitors is 2 weeks
- 40% of kids are year-round
- Summer program committee no longer active
- Moved to a new model with a paid Director
- Dramatic reduction in number of attendees from 2015 (200 down to 150)
- Community Center now running a deficit
- Fundraising is down
- Use of the center outside of the morning program has risen
- Brief discussion occurred regarding the advantages of moving the Community Center to the Peaked Hill Pastures site:
- Attractive physical facility
- Swimming pool
- New tennis court
- New beginning/chapter
