CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
April 16, 2018
Present: Trustees Jane Kaplan (Chair), Candy Shweder and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta.
Meeting called to order at 10:03 AM at the Chilmark Library. Minutes for the March 28, 2018 meeting were approved as amended.
Financial Report: The latest financial reports from the Chilmark town accountant were discussed. No issues – we should end the fiscal year in good shape.
Director’s Report: Ebba discussed the hearing loop which we have hoped to install in the Library, thanks to a generous donation from a patron. The intent had been to wire the meeting room such that anyone with hearing issues could “tune in” and hear presenters and discussion. Unfortunately, it would be hard to install a hearing loop, given the slab foundation on which the library rests. An alternative product is a personal loop on a lanyard. These will be available at the front desk of the library for patrons to use.
Friends Report: The Friends will be meeting later this week to send out their annual fund-raising letter.
Old Business: Ebba presented a set of talking points that might be used, if needed, at the Chilmark Annual Town Meeting later this month. The talking points outline the rationale behind the fourth benefitted library position which is included in the FY19 town budget. Jane Kaplan took an action to call the Town Moderator, Everett Poole, this week to request permission for Ebba to be recognized and allowed to speak on town meeting floor (since she is not a town resident), if there was discussion on the Library budget.
We discussed the need to have an agreement in place with the MV Film Festival before the busy summer season. We discussed a draft memo that Ebba had prepared, but upon reflection, we realized there were a few areas that needed to be researched. Ebba and Jane will work these questions, and we will discuss at our next meeting.
