CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
November 15, 2017
Present: Trustees Jane Kaplan (Chair), Candy Shweder and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta; Assistant Library Director Rizwan Malik.
Meeting called to order at 10:03 AM at the Chilmark Library. Minutes for the October 18, 2017 meeting were approved as amended.
Program Update: The Qigong program has been very successful. The current program is four weeks long; additional programs might be offered if there is sufficient interest.
Director’s Report: There will be a free showing at the MV Film Center of the documentary “Ex Libris”. This film documents the history of the New York Public Library system.
The Friends have scheduled three holiday events for December – the Classic Brass holiday concert (December 6th), the book sale (which will begin December 12th) and the holiday party (December 13th).
New Business: There will be a special town meeting on November 27th. We reviewed the warrant which includes three articles which are related to the Chilmark Library. Article # 2 asks the town to vote to appropriate money to purchase and install storage shelving in the basement of the Chilmark Library. These shelves would be used to store records from town departments and committees. Article # 9 asks the Town to adopt a revised pay classification scale. Article # 10 asks the Town to fund the related increases to departmental budgets to implement the revised pay scale. One of the affected positions is that of Assistant Library Director.
Ebba discussed the topic of a fourth benefitted position on the Library staff. This would include two days allocated to programming for the library, with the remaining hours used for staffing on Saturday and one other day. Jane Kaplan suggested that Ebba research the number of benefitted positions at each of the other island libraries vs the hours of operation and amount of circulation.
Meeting adjourned at 10:41 AM. Next meeting will be December 22nd at 10:00 AM.
