CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
September 22, 2017

Present: Trustees Candy Shweder and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta; Assistant Library Director Rizwan Malik.
Meeting called to order at 10:04 AM. Trustee Candy Shweder acted as Chairman in Jane Kaplan’s absence. Minutes for the August 2017 meeting were approved as submitted.
Program Update: There was good attendance at the Chilmark Library programs this summer, although some were impacted by weather.
Building Update: Outside painting of the Chilmark Library building has begun. The recent storms caused some disruption.
Director’s Report: Ebba announced that Alexandra Pratt has been hired as year-round, part time circulation/programming assistant. Janet Weidner moved that the Trustees approve the hiring of Alexandra. Candy Shweder seconded the motion, and it was unanimously approved.
New Business: Ebba said that, although the parking situation this summer has been much improved, there was an event towards the end of the summer at which the MV Film Festival posted a guard and signage at the Chilmark Library parking lot which indicated that the lot was available for Film Festival use only. The parking lot is public property and is open for anyone to use after hours. A private group cannot prohibit others from using the parking lot. We agreed to discuss this topic further at our next meeting when all three Trustees are present.
Ebba said that rapid response training for public employees is being set up for Island public employees. Depending on the scheduled date, it may be necessary to close the Chilmark Library for a few hours in order to allow all staff to attend.
Meeting adjourned at 10:25 AM. Next meeting will be October 18th at 10:00 AM.
