CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
August 7, 2017
Present: Trustee Chair Jane Kaplan; Trustees Candy Shweder and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta.
Meeting called to order at 10:03 AM. Minutes for the July 2017 meeting were approved as amended.
Program Update: There has been good attendance at the programs this summer, although some were impacted by weather.
Building Update: Outside painting is expected to begin in the fall.
Financial Reports: We discussed the final FY 17 numbers. Overall, the Chilmark Library is “in the black”. There were a few overages but these balanced out.
Director’s Report: Ebba reported that Chilmark’s Human Resources Board has undertaken a process to ensure the wage scale is appropriate and consistent. There will likely be salary increases as a result of this process.
New Business: Ebba raised the topic of establishing a programming position at the Chilmark Library. This would be a benefitted position whose focus would be the Wednesday night programming as well as other programming needs. The addition of such a position would need to be approved at Town Meeting. Candy Shweder made a motion that we explore the possibility of adding a fourth benefitted position to the Chilmark Library staff. The motion was seconded and approved. Ebba agreed to come back to the Trustees with some options as to how this position might be staffed. In the meantime, the Library is advertising for a year-round, part-time circulation/programming assistant.
