Library Trustees 10/26/2011
MINUTES
CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
October 26, 2011

Present: Trustees Jane Slater and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta.

Meeting called to order at 9:12 AM.  We approved the minutes of the September meeting.
Review of minutes of the July 2011 meeting was postponed till the November meeting, as we did not have a quorum of the members who had attended the July meeting.

Group Reports: The Program Group reports that the U.S. premiere of the BBC Sissinghurst Gardens program was a big hit in September – almost fifty people attended the first night.  The Trustees requested that the Library Director send a note to Susan Murphy, thanking her for her hard work in making the Sissinghurst Gardens program possible.

Old Business: Parking for summer programs at the Community Center continues to impact the availability of Library parking spaces for Library patrons.   Ebba is setting up a meeting soon with the Town Affairs Council to discuss these issues.  There is no date yet for this meeting.

The Library Director presented the Trustees with the latest draft version of the school/library agreement which has been signed by the School Superintendent and with which the Library Director felt comfortable.  The Trustees reviewed it, and a motion was made that the Library Director sign the agreement on behalf of the Chilmark Library.  The motion was approved, and the Library Director signed the school/library agreement.

New Business: The holiday closing schedule was discussed.  The library will be closed on Monday, 26 December, and Monday, 2 January.  Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve will be half days.

The Library Director announced that Thursday attendance has increased by an average of twenty five patrons a week, thanks to the additional hour that the Library is open on Thursdays.

The Friends of the Chilmark Library are planning their annual holiday party on December 14th.  As always, this will also serve as the kick-off of their book sale.

The Library Director reported that the Friends have voted unanimously to support the migration of the Chilmark Library to the CLAMS program by funding the $25,000 start-up costs.  The Trustees made a motion, subsequently approved, to vote their full support of the migration plan.  There will be a CLAMS forum on Wednesday, 9 November at 5 PM, for the Up Island towns, held at the Chilmark Library.  The Director of CLAMS and the Director of the Falmouth Library will explain the benefits and costs of joining the CLAMS program and answer any questions.

Meeting adjourned at 9:35 AM.  Next meeting will be November 14th at 9:00 AM.
