Library Trustees 10/23/2012
MINUTES
CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
October 23, 2012

Present: Trustees Jane Slater and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta.

Meeting called to order at 9:03 AM.

Group Reports: The Building and Grounds group reported that gutter repairs are being made.

Financial Reports: The September financial reports were not yet available at the time of the meeting.

Old Business:  The CLAMS installation continues to move along.  The Chilmark Library’s database has been uploaded onto the CLAMS server.  The CLAMS library cards have been ordered for us.  Once they arrive, the process of transitioning Chilmark patrons over to the new cards can begin.

On 9 October, the Trustees and the Library Director participated in a meeting convened by one of the Chilmark selectmen, Bill Rossi, to address parking and traffic issues in town center.  Also participating were representatives of the Chilmark Community Center, the Town Affairs Council, the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival and other businesses located in the center of town.  All present voiced an interest in improving the situation.  Some possible solutions were discussed – scheduling changes, parking in alternate locations – and Bill Rossi agreed to bring the topic back to the Board of Selectmen for further consideration.

New Business: The Chilmark Library had previously applied for a Small Libraries in Network state grant.  The Library Director announced that we have been approved!

The Chilmark Library Christmas Party, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will be held on 12 December.

The Library Director provided the Trustees with two incident reports regarding a patron has been harassing a staff member.  She discussed the situation with the Chilmark Police Chief who raised it with the town’s labor counsel.  Counsel advised that the Town of Chilmark is obligated to keep its workplace safe and harassment free for its employees.  Based on the input from those sources, and discussion amongst the Trustees, a motion was made and approved by the Trustees to rescind Chilmark Library privileges for the patron in question for one year.

Meeting adjourned at 9:35 AM.  Next meeting will be November 14th at 9:00 AM.
