MINUTES
CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
July 23, 2012
Present: Trustees Norman Freed, Jane Slater and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta, Librarian Kristin Maloney.
Meeting called to order at 8:33 AM. We approved the minutes of the June meeting as submitted.
Group Reports: The art group reported that the stone wall show is on display in the meeting room. The related presentation will be held on August 8. The building and grounds group reported several new trees have been planted which will eventually provide shade on the patio.
Financial Reports: The June financial reports were not yet available, since the end of the fiscal year brings additional reporting requirements.
Old Business: Norman Freed and Ebba Hierta recently met with the Town Affairs Council Chairman, Jeff Herman, to discuss concerns about parking and traffic issues, due to the large summer Chilmark Community Center crowds. The Town Affairs Council has provided traffic attendants on Wednesday nights, to direct film festival attendees to parking areas other than the library (as Wednesday night is the Library’s program night, in the summer). While this has helped somewhat, there are still issues to be resolved.
New Business: The Yard has approached the Library about the possibility of showing a video on a continuous loop, in the meeting room, at periods of time during the summer. The eight minute video shows a dance program, based on the work of Jules Feiffer, a local author. The Trustees voted to approve the showing of this literature-based video.
The CLAMS executive director and technical supervisor made a site visit to the Chilmark Library in July to assess our technical set-up. Among other things, CLAMS will be providing a dedicated COMCAST line to support our interactions with the rest of the CLAMS system.
