CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
February 22, 2011
Present: Trustees Norman Freed and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta and Librarian Kristin Maloney.
Meeting called to order at 9:36 AM. Minutes of the December 2010 meeting approved as submitted.
Art Group: The Chilmark School art show is ongoing in the meeting room. The room is booked for the rest of 2011, and Kristin is starting to schedule art shows for the summer of 2012.
Building and Grounds Report: There are again problems with the well that the library shares with the Community Center. Bacteria has been found during recent testing. To some extent, this is due to the fact that the well is not up to the standard of a “public water supply”. This is acceptable for the library, given the number of hours that it is open and the amount of foot traffic. However, the Community Center must be able to provide for much greater numbers of people for the summer camp and for some of its other programs, such as weddings, film festivals, the road race, etc. The town is considering the feasibility of connecting the Community Center to the Chilmark School’s water supply, as the School’s well is up to the standard of a public water supply. There will be more information on this topic to follow in the next few months.
Program Report: We have been getting good attendance at our winter programs. The Wednesday evening classes on “Getting Connected” have been well attended. We’ve been utilizing our new laptops for these classes. The Friday night movies, as well as the Wednesday noon chowder and a movie series, have continued also.
New Business: The Library Director has a meeting scheduled in March with the Chilmark School Principal and the Martha’s Vineyard Superintendent of Schools to discuss the Chilmark Library’s program for the Chilmark School for next year.
