CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
September 21, 2010
Present: Trustees Norman Freed and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta.
Meeting called to order at 8:37 AM. Minutes of the August 2010 meeting approved as submitted.
Building and Grounds Report: Painting of some of the exterior window trim is underway, thanks to Rodney Bunker.
Program Group: The library had high attendance for our programs and events this summer. Some of the programs attracted greater than 100 people. The size of the audience is threatening to become a staffing issue, as staff are needed to manage seating as well as safety issues.
Chairman’s Report: Norman reported that he and Ebba had attended a Personnel Committee meeting earlier in September. In discussing the planned revisions to the Personnel By-Laws, the Personnel Committee has agreed that the Library Trustees are the appointing authority for the Library Director. In general, the selectmen are the appointing authority for town positions, except where indicated otherwise by Massachusetts General Law.
New Business: The Personnel Board is in the process of reviewing the job description for the Library Director. This job description was last reviewed in 2003. The Trustees have agreed that we would like to have input into the Library Director’s job description. Ebba provided the Trustees with the existing job description as well as a draft revised job description which she had prepared. The Trustees agreed that we would review the draft over the next month and plan to focus on this topic at our October meeting, with a goal of providing our suggested revisions to the Personnel Board sometime thereafter.
