CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
July 21, 2009
Present: Trustees Norman Freed, Jane Slater and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta; Librarian Kristen Maloney.
Meeting called to order at 9:04 AM.
We opened with a moment of silence in honor of Jackie Sexton. She had provided eighteen years of service to the Chilmark Library as a trustee.
Minutes of the June meeting were approved as amended.
Art Group: All is going well. There is a new show about to start. Many new participants this year.
Building and Grounds: Thank you to Meg Orlando for her efforts in putting together the butterfly garden.
Program Group: There has been great attendance for all programs (more than fifty in attendance at each).
Financial: Ebba announced that the Fincom had agreed to cover the small deficit in the maintenance budget line for the concluding Fiscal Year.
Correspondence: There will be a champagne reception on Saturday August 1, as a kick-off to the MV Book Festival.
Director’s Report: Moon rocks are coming to the island. They will be at the Chilmark Library on August 5th. Irene Tewksbury has been trained to handle them for us. Other island libraries are participating as well.
The Visiting Nurse’s Association’s blood pressure clinic will be held at the Chilmark Library, beginning in September. It had previously been held at the Town Hall but it was felt that there would be more of a turn-out if it was held at the library instead.
Old Business: None.
New Business: We discussed a suitable remembrance for Jackie Sexton. We are considering a tree, possibly a Stewartia, but will confer with her family for their input. Also, Ebba is putting together a thank you newspaper ad to thank the Friends of the Chilmark Library and their supporters for all of the programs and activities that they make possible.
