CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
FEBRUARY 19, 2009
Present: Trustees Jane Slater and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta
Absent: Trustee Norman Freed
Meeting called to order at 1:08 PM.
Building and Grounds: Matt Tobin of Tea Lane Nursery is preparing to move the magnolias around to the back of the library. The Friends of the Library are paying for three rhododendrons to be added to the grounds.
Programs: The new teen program has kicked off and appears to be very successful. There is a group of eight regular participants, as well as several others who come less frequently. The Friends are providing one gift certificate a month as a prize for a monthly drawing. The teens fill out an entry for each book they have read that month. During the first month of the program, the teens reported reading thirty-five books!! The program includes a discussion group on a particular book each month, and the group is also writing a book together.
Director’s Report: Ebba reported that, because of the current low rates of return on investments, it might be necessary to draw from the principal of the Brickner Fund in order to continue to fund the summer poetry contest. The Library would need to get permission from the trustees of the fund in order to do so. We agreed to discuss this further at a future meeting.
Old Business: The trustees expressed their gratitude to the library director for her efforts on the budget for FY 2010.
