CHILMARK LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
MARCH 25, 2009
Present: Trustees Jane Slater and Janet Weidner; Library Director Ebba Hierta; Librarian Kristen Maloney.
Absent: Trustee Norman Freed
Meeting called to order at 9:37 AM.
Art Group: Kristen reported that, with the exception of December, the remainder of 2009 is booked for art shows.
Building and Grounds: The magnolia trees have been moved. Tea Lane Nursery has completed the changes in front of the library building. The library would like to thank them for the donation of materials.
The storm door blew off of the door in the old section of the library. Old pictures of the library will be examined so that we will be able to replace the door with one that is in the same style as the door that was there.
Ebba presented various post designs that we might use at the Library for our new outside light. The Board voted to use a wooden post similar to the style which has been used at the Town Hall.
Programs: Ebba reported that booking of summer programs has begun.
Director’s Report: Ebba reported that she is pursuing a “green library” grant.
Old Business: The State of Massachusetts is planning to consolidate library networks; there are currently eight separate networks within the state. Three networks in Western Massachusetts are doing a pilot consolidation right now. We agreed that, given the coming consolidation, it makes sense for the Chilmark Library to wait before becoming part of a network (such as CLAMS).
A new server is needed for the Chilmark Library as our current server is full. The Friends had already agreed to contribute a portion. It is also possible that we could use some state aid money. Ebba agreed to firm up an estimate for our next meeting, and we would then decide how to proceed.
