Board of Health Minutes 05/07/08
Chilmark Board of Health Minutes
May 7, 2008

Attendees:   Michael Renahan, Jan Buhrman, Sylvia Yeomans,  Reid Silva, Jane R. Wilkie, Don Reese, Wendy Bujak, Max McCreery, Emily B. Gadd, Ron Mechur, Fran Demers, Hans Solmssen

The Board approved the minutes from April 2, 2008.

Robert M. & Dianne K. Congdon (20-69) – This septic inspection passed.  Sylvia can not find any file for this parcel.  The Board asked Sylvia to do further research as they believe there should be a file.

Peter Moses (32-72) – The Board approved this six (6) bedroom residential disposal works application with the following condition;  the engineer must submit a new site drawing showing the sewer lines on the property, not in the road easement.

Maryann Thompson (24-213) – This hearing was opened at 5:30 PM.  Katie Carroll was not present for this hearing.   The Board reviewed two letters that were received since the last meeting.  One letter is a duplicate that was read into the minutes on April 2 and the other letter was referencing a Conservation Commission decision.   It was explained that the decision referenced was from the Conservation Commission and not the Board of Health.  The engineer submitted a new septic design for a four (4) bedroom Bioclere enhanced septic system.  The following variances are required; 1) A reduction in separation between leaching area and leaching area from 300 ft. to 200 ft,  2) A reduction in separation between leaching area and leaching area from 300 ft. to 204 ft.,  and 3)  A reduction in separation between leaching area and leaching area from 300 ft to 212 ft.  The engineer has revised the plan by reducing the bedroom count from six (6) bedrooms to four (4) bedrooms, using a Bioclere system, and the proposed well has been moved to meet the 200 foot separation from the leaching area.  This hearing will be continued on June 4, 2008 at 5:30.

Geothermal Wells --  Reid Silva discussed the installation of a geothermal well for heating purposes.  Reid stated that a geothermal well separation is 25 feet from another well, and 50 feet from a septic system. He said this information can be found under water quality on the DEP web page.   Reid suggested contacting Sean Fennassy at Sun Engineering, Inc. for more information.  The Board asked Sylvia to research Geothermal Wells on the state web page.

The following “as-built” letter was received:                   David Epstein (9-3)

The following invoice was approved:
        MV Refuse Disposal & Resource                                   $ 1,455.85

Respectfully Submitted,
Sylvia Yeomans
Administrator/Inspector
