Present: Stephen Lewenberg, (Vice Chair), Frank Lo Russo, Jennie Greene, Chuck Hodgkinson (Staff Representative)
Also Present: J.B. Riggs Parker (Selectman representative), Tim Carroll (Executive Secretary), Marina Lent (Personnel Board Secretary), David O. Norton (Fire Chief)
Absent: Max McCreery (Chair), (Unfilled Personnel Board seat).
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 am.
Approval of Minutes: The Minutes of July 23rd were approved as amended. There was no quorum present to approve minutes of July 9th.
Administrative Assistant for Fire Department: The Board reviewed a request of Chief David Norton to hire an Administrative Assistant under the current position description dated January 2002. Chief Norton described a wide range of duties which could be undertaken by an Administrative Assistant and assured the Board that 5 hours per week have been budgeted for this position.
The Board stated that the position will have to be advertised and posted. Chief Norton will work with Tim Carroll to accomplish this. Stephen Lewenberg added that the Personnel Board will gladly appoint one of its members to assist in the hiring process. Frank LoRusso felt that the person who fills the position should have a strong legal/regulatory understanding of building codes and other public safety related regulations.
Human Resources Bylaw: The Board then reviewed suggested changes proposed by Town Labor Counsel Jack Collins, and determined to continue its review starting with maternity/paternity leave-related questions at its next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 am.
