Community Preservation Committee Minutes 5/22/07
Present for the Community Preservation Committee and attending the meeting were:  Andy Goldman, Chairman, Warren Doty, Janet Weidner, Karin Wetmore and Chuck Hodgkinson.  Russell Maloney, Jane Slater and Bill Randol were absent.     

The meeting came to order at 7:08 PM.  
        
1.      MIDDLE addressStreetLINE ROAD UPDATE:  Mr. Doty summarized the status of several aspects of this program.  The Planning Board closed the hearing for the Form B subdivision on Monday, May 21.  The MVC will continue its public hearing on the DRI review Thursday, May 31 @ 7:30 PM at their office in Oak Bluffs.

Mr. Goldman read a letter from the Island Affordable Housing Fund praising the CPC and Town’s efforts and investment in the Middle Line Road Community Housing Program.

2.      MINUTES:  The 4/24/07 meeting minutes were reviewed.  A motion to approve the minutes as presented was made, seconded and unanimously approved.

3.      ROBERT THORSON VISIT:  Chuck H. confirmed that Robert Thorson would have a lecture on historic stone walls on Thursday, June 28 @ 5:00 PM at the Chilmark Library. He will host a guided walk on the morning of Friday, June 29 @ 9:30 AM (meet at the Library).  All arrangements have been made.  The Chilmark Historical Commission with CPC support will host the series.  A motion to approve the CPC’s $500 lecture fee and transportation portion of Mr. Thorson’s expenses was made seconded and unanimously approved.  The Historical Commission will pay for one night’s lodging at the Menemsha Inn.  Chuck H. will pick up Mr. Thorson at the ferry dock.

4.      MENEMSHA COMMERCIAL FISHING:  Mr. Doty updated the Committee on the progress of the Shellfish Advisory Committee and Propagation Agent.  He outlined several future opportunities that he is exploring to help further preserve Menemsha’s commercial fishing industry and heritage.  There was discussion about various programs that are under review to help increase the eelgrass habitat through controlled planting.  The Committee also discussed whether or not these types of activities might be eligible for CPA Open Space Preservation funding as they preserve habitat and ultimately the health of the pond.

5.      NEXT MEETING:  The next CPC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 26, 2007            @ 7:00 PM.    

With no further business to discuss a motion was made, seconded and unanimously approved to adjourn.  The meeting adjourned at 7:50 PM.
