A. Minutes from March 14, 2019 - approved as written minus 3 typos
B. Superintendent Report -
1. Rain barrel- Rodney will look at trim board with an eye to
replacement. Board decided on galvanized gutter and
downspout and belgium blocks to elevate. Laurisa will buy
materials and contact Susan when ready.
2. Compost area - has been cleared. Yaffee’s $325 estimate was
exceeded to $500+ for tree removal. Brush will be collected
inside cleared area to decompose or be chipped.
3. Spring Cleanup - has not yet occurred but cemetery looks
wonderful due to thorough Fall clean-up and tree work. Our
Spring cleanup funds may be put towards more tree work.
C. Continuing discussion of Cemetery Regulations and Policies -
Deferred to May’s meeting.
D. Update on timing and funding for Map Re-drawing Project -
Ted Dooling’s estimate of $325 to draw out 278 lots. Jenny will provide him
the Lessees of Plots list.
E. Correspondence - none
F. Topics not reasonably anticipated -
a. John Flender arrived bearing catalogue and recommendations.
1. Cemetery Catalogue updated 2019 along with a thumb drive.
“There are some errors. One should rely on the card file “ Catalogue
contains spreadsheets on Cemetery plots organized by -
• Plot Leasees (alphabetical)
• The Interned
• Year of Death
• Inscriptions (compiled by Harriet)
2. Recommendations re Old Section map - The original was
prepared in 1954 by Oslo Robinson and is very detailed. Copies of
copies over time were maintained by Basil and have become
somewhat illegible. John recommends we update it starting with
original copy then add data from most recent copy to that.
3. Plot Cards - He suggests we put outline of plot on the card itself
notating location of the interned.
4. Headstone repair - informed us of a NH gravestone repair
company who has done work on Abels Hill.
5. Crooked Plots on Wild Grass Road -when new section was surveyed
some plots became parallelogram-shaped and 1 pie-shaped. Suggest
we discuss with Ted.
b. Laurisa suggested we inquire if Tom Dresser is interested in doing a
historical tour of Chilmark Cemetery. We will discuss at the May meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 4:15
Respectfully submitted,
Laurisa Rich
Secretary
