Cemetery Trustees

Present: Ruth Hammen, Robin Stephens, and Fred Shaw
Fence Repair At Leavitt Cemetery: The Trustees reviewed 3 bids to repair the fence, which was severely damaged by last spring’s windstorm. Trees fell across the fence in three places, which will need complete replacement. The Trustees have also included minor cosmetic fence repairs that needed to be done.
The contract was awarded to Dawson Fence Company of Chichester. Ruth will notify Mr. Dawson and also check to see if the Town requires that he be bonded.
Letter to Abutter: While surveying the damage to the fence at Leavitt Cemetery, the Trustees noticed that 2 trees (one dead and one alive) on an abutter’s property were likely to fall on the fence at some time. The Trustees drafted a letter to the abutter apprising him of the potential problem if not corrected.
Cemetery Deed: The Trustees approved a revised Cemetery Deed to be used when lots are sold and conveyed in the public cemeteries.
Lot Prices & Corner Stones: The Trustees approved a slightly reworked version of the Lot Price list. The changes were in how payment would be made and the procedure to install corner stones.
Cemetery Rules: The Trustees modified and approved the Cemetery Rules. Notable changes include:
-no artificial lighting is allowed
-only one above ground stone monument is permitted
-dawn to dusk cemetery hours
By-Laws: The Trustees rewrote and approved the by-laws.
Receipt: The Trustees approved a receipt that will be given to buyers of lots.
Hook Cemetery: Ruth has contacted the road agent, who has subsequently removed to tree pieces from the cemetery.
