Cemetery Minutes 04112018
Cemetery Public Meeting
April 11, 2018
Chichester Public Library
In attendance: Committee Members Dave Pinckney, Mark McIntosh, Linda Fisher, Leslie Ari,
Tammy Jameson. Guests Gail & Jim Towle, Richard and Sandra Millotte, Donna Chagnon,
Cara Torrey and Lucille Noel.
1. Green Burial – Lucille presented an option for Chichester residents. This is an
ecologically friendly way to dispose of one’s eternal remains. Lucille left information
behind, which was added to the documents Leslie had brought along. The committee will
investigate.
2. Maintenance:
a. Several folks talked about the poor maintenance our cemeteries receive, especially in
comparison with other towns. Epsom was mentioned as a town that takes good care.
There, only potted plants are allowed, and plastic only from November through April.
The committee will investigate.
b. The trees at the back of Leavitt make quite a leafy mess. Committee to find out who
owns those trees and perhaps find a trimming solution.
c. Donna Chagnon was asking about removing the marker at 171 at Leavitt and adding a
headstone. Mark will investigate.
3. A lively discussion was held regarding the Cemetery Rules (Do’s and Don’ts). Rules
should be posted in multiple places at both Leavitt and Pineground. David explained
how the rules are for the appearance of the cemetery and the safety of the maintenance
crew. Some felt the crew could and should be more respectful and careful and the
committee will discuss this with the caretaker. Committee will consider amending the
12” planting rule in the case of family headstones engraved on two sides.
4. Leslie has phone numbers for all those in attendance. Donna Chagnon offered to help
place flags for Memorial Day
